Edmonton Comic Expo 2014

September 26-28, 2014

This year, NALUG had the amazing opportunity to run a display at the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo. We had a blast throughout the weekend interacting with some of the 46,000 visitors that came out to the Expo throughout the weekend and saw many jaws drop as they passed by our display. As this was our first time displaying at the Expo, we didn't know quite what to bring and decided upon bringing a little bit of everything. Our display featured a massive Lego city populated with countless iconic pop-culture icons, a Laketown display from the Hobbit movies featuring a terrifying dragon, some sci fi as well as a two-tiered Star Wars Hoth dispay with custom-built minifigure-scale AT-AT's. On top of that, we also had a Battlestar Galactica from the original series built by one of our members, and a Lego Viper signed by Dirk Benedict, Starbuck from the original 80's series. While the weekend passed in a flurry of activity, it was one that we'll gladly (and hopefully) have the chance to be a part of again. See you next September!

The Great Edmonton Train Show 2014

    September 20-21 2014

NALUG celebrated their 15th anniversary of displaying at the Great Edmonton Train Show this year and brought forth another fantastic showing. Our layout this year featured many returning lego masterpieces such as a massive mountain, and 1:1 minifigure scale space shuttle, but also featured an entirely new layout and features such as a Lego circus. On top of the wonderful display, we were also able to have the chance to talk with many different members of the public and hang out with each other - always an enjoyable experience. Making an excellent weekend even better, NALUG also won the people's choice award for the best layout! After all the hours of preparation, it's nice to know that others enjoy the hard work we invest into our hobby and we hope that maybe next year you'll be able to come out and enjoy it as well.

    Animethon 2014

    Animethon

    August 7-9 2014

This past weekend, NALUG had the privelege of running a display at Animethon - a massive Japanese animation (anime)-themed convention held in downtown Edmonton. The event was quite enjoyable and we had a steady stream of visitors past our display booth throughout the weekend. It was always fun hearing people's expressions of sheer joy and amazement as they rounded the corner and saw Chris and Scott's gigantic display of Mordor from Lord of the Rings; there were quite a few people dropping their jaws! We also got to enjoy seeing plenty of people dressed up in crazy costumes for the event, most of which we didn't recognize, but which were still awesome. All in all, we had a great time at the event and hope to come back next year for more!

    EEK! 2014

This year, NALUG was excited to have the chance to run a display at EEK! Comic and Pop Culture Expo in St. Albert. Whether it be roaming 2372042 through the many booths at the expo or manning our own display, we all had a lot of fun. For our part, we created a display consisting of many themes such as Space, Star wars, Pirates, Town and others. One of the big hits from the dispay was Lazlo's "Where's Waldo" display, which kept many guests occupied as they looked for the one minifigure out of thousands that didn't match! there was also tons of people dressed in cool costumes that we got to meet and take pictures with. All in all, it was a great experience and we hope to be back next year.
